Boris C-Charge Fine: “Done By My Own System”

The Conservative Mayor of London Boris Johnson has admitted paying a fine for failing to pay the city’s congestion charge.

The mayor told the BBC that he “totally forgot” to pay the £8-a-day charge in the required 48 hours after he drove into central London last month.

“I got done by my own system,” he told radio station BBC London 94.9. “Bing! I got a £60 fine which I have just coughed up.”

Mr Johnson, who usually travels by bicycle, said he drove into central London to light the Hanukkah Menorah in a ceremony at Trafalgar Square on 22 December.

He also criticised the current system of charging and promised to set up an account-based system as soon as possible which might resemble the Oyster card system for public transport in the capital.
